EXPEDITION LEADER:

Tom Nixon:

Tom has held a number of roles in Scouting and is the former District Commissioner for Lewisham District. In his spare time, he also works for Shelter, the national homelessness and housing charity. Tom has led international expeditions to France and Norway, and has assisted on previous expeditions to Kenya and Uganda. He also assisted with delivering the first aid provision for the 21st World Scout Jamboree in 2007 (attended by 50,000 scouts from over 200 countries). He has also travelled extensively in Africa to Egypt, Tunisia and Tanzania.

DEPUTY EXPEDITION LEADER:

Bill Compton:

Bill is the Group Scout Leader of the 12th Lewisham South and is also the current Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts in Lewisham. Bill has also had extensive experience of international trips, having led expeditions to Sweden, Finland and Jersey (among many others). He was heavily involved in the delivery of the UK Pavilion activities at the 21st World Scout Jamboree. Bill was also an assistant leader on both the Kenya 2009 and 2012 expeditions, and has undertaken 8 expeditions to Kenya with a variety of different groups.

ASSISTANT EXPEDITION LEADERS:

Lawrie Smith – Treasurer:

Lawrie is the District Chairman for Lewisham District. Lawrie has also held numerous appointments in scouting, and spent a long time working with the 16-20 year old age range and sat on various national bodies for this age range. He has also had significant international experience, being an assistant leader on both the 2009 and 2012 trips to Kenya, and has also travelled extensively in sub-saharan Africa – to Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Swaziland and South Africa.

Nick Smith – Health and Welfare:

Nick is a Nights Away Adviser for Lewisham District and an Explorer Leader in Croydon District. By day, he runs his own company, specialising in event planning for large scale events. (He also does bouncy castles and DJ’ing). He has led international expeditions to Switzerland and also travelled extensively across the world.

Joe McEvilly:

Joe is the Cub Scout Leader for the 12th Lewisham South. He was a participant on the 2009 trip to Kenya and an assistant leader on the 2012 trip, and has significant experience in planning and running large scale events at the District’s campsite.

Amber Cox:

Amber is the District Project Manager (Beaver Scout Development), and an Assistant Scout Leader for the 6th Lewisham South. She was a participant at the 21st World Scout Jamboree and has travelled abroad on numerous scout expeditions. She is also the nominated youth representative for Greater London South to The Scout Association, and has great experience of planning and organising events.

Denise Pritchard:

Denise is the Scout Leader for the 6th Lewisham South. Denise also has extensive experience of international camping and was also part of the International Service Team at the 21st World Scout Jamboree. She was also an assistant leader for the 2012 Kenya expedition.

Ray Wickenden:

Ray is the Assistant Group Scout Leader for the 8th Lewisham South, and is also a member of the Frylands Wood Operational Sub-committee. He is also a Nights Away Adviser for Lewisham District. Ray has experience of camping and has extensive experience in construction, building and carpentry.

Lindsey Smith:

Lindsey is a former Assistant Cub Scout Leader & District Secretary. She is a retired teacher for children with visual impairments. Lindsey was an assistant leader on both the 2009 and 2012 expeditions to Kenya. She has also travelled widely in Africa to Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Swaziland and South Africa.
